Charlie Simeon Richkenbacker a cherished father, grandfather, US Army Veteran, dedicated public servant and accomplished musician passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025 at the age of 92. Born on November 20, 1932 in Bamberg, South Carolina, Charlie's life was one of service, dedication and passion qualities that left a lasting impact on everyone who had
the privilege of knowing him.
Charlie was the son of Timothy and Rebecca Rickenbacker(nee Johnson). He grew up in Bamberg, where he graduated from the Bamberg School District. As a young man, he dreamed of continuing his education in college, but his path took a different turn when he was drafted into the United States Army his first semester in college as the Korean War escalated. Charlie proudly served from 1951 to 1953 and his time in the military shaped his character and instilled in him a deep sense of duty and honor. As a US Army Veteran he remained proud of his service and often shared stories of his experiences, which left a lasting
impression on his family and friends.
After his military service, Charlie moved to Philadelphia that's where he met Beverly Brooks and they were married in March 1990. Their love partnership were a cornerstone of Charlie's
life bringing him joy, stability and happiness.
Charlie was also know for his extraordinary musical talent. For 50 years, he played guitar with the Kings of Israel Gospel Group a renowned gospel band that performed all over the United States. Charlie's music touched the hearts of countless people and his skill as a guitarist was integral to the group's success, whether performing in small churches or large gospel programs. Charlie's love for music and his devotion to his faith were evident in every note he played. His legacy as a musician will continue to inspire future generations of gospel
artists and musicians.
In addition to his musical career, Charlie worked for the United States Postal Service before retiring in 2009. His commitment to his work and community was unwavering and he was
well respected by all who worked with him.
He was know for his generous spirit always making time to help others, offer advice and share a good laugh. His family and friends will remember him as a man who lived life to the fullest
always with a smile on his face and a song in his heart.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Timothy and Rebecca, his son Charles. daughter Deborah. He is survived by his wife Beverly, son Ellis (Arlene), two daughters Nyoka and Donna (Brian), a host of grandchildren , great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His family takes comfort in knowing that his memory will live on in their hearts as well as in the
music he created and stories he shared.
