Life Story
Deborah Battles affectionately known as Aunt Deb was born January 26,1958 at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Cassie Lee Scantling and Jake Gilyard. Debbie was blessed to be loved and nurtured throughout her years by her dad Ellis Matthews -Elbow (deceased). Deborah was educated in The Philadelphia Public School System, Deborah obtained a job working for The Hilton Hotel Cooperation for many years.
In 1993 Deborah met and married James Berryhill (Jabo). Aunt Debbie was an amazing wife, an excellent mother and provider. Debbie was an outstanding,loving, and remarkable grandmother. Aunt Debbie loved playing cards,watching scary movies and always a quiet time at home watching Law & Order. Deb loved to party and always was your go to person for any and everything. Not only did Aunt Deb speak her mind, she could back it up with the walk and the talk and she didn't care who didn't like it, and growing up on 13th ST. you had to be able to hold your own and Aunt Deb did just that.
Aunt Deb will be missed by her family and friends. She was proceeded in death by her parents Cassie Lee Scantling and Jake Gilyard, and dad Elbow, her brother Robert Battles, her grandmother Gladys Drayton, her Aunt Videssa Drayton, and her son Johnny Hemingway. She leaves to mourn: Her husband James Berryhill,
Children: Torrance, Cassie, Ellis, Ashantai, Gee-Gee, James, Shakir, & Jaleel. 18 Grandchildren: 11 Grandsons & 7 Granddaughters :Zariq /Son, Zion, Torrance, Quran, Rahiem, Nalee, Naleem, Kyirah, Nah'la, Hy'Nia, Hasim, Avery, Naimah, Zoe, Hamid, Na'ree, Nova, & YaYa. 12 Sisters & 11 Brothers. 1 Favorite Neice: Taahirah & 1 Godsister: Stephanie & a host of nieces, nephews, & cousins.
