Denise Barbara Buchanan was born on February 19th, 1959 to Charles and Barbara Buchanan in Philadelphia, PA. She was called to eternal rest on June 12, 2025. Denise was the eldest of seven children.

Denise was educated in the Philadelphia public school system, where she attended Olney High School and received her diploma. Throughout her schooling career she was consistently acknowledged and awarded for a high IQ and taking the initiative, along with her fellow class-mates to create a healthy learning environment. She was employed at several retail stores and Bank of America as a customer service representative before she was injured and no longer able to work.

At a young age Denise married and began her family with the late Steve Ellerby. From this union she had her first three children; Dijuan, Samara and Steve. Her eldest son, Dijuan Ellerby has preceded her in death in November of 2019. Eight years after her departure from her then husband, Denise had her remaining three children; Charlene, Dorian (Coco) and Antonio.

Denise affectionately known as "Niecey" loved to laugh and had a bright beautiful smile that could light the way to heaven. She was funny with a great sense of humor. Her peaceful nature made her comforting to speak with. The ability to make friends has always come naturally to her. Many would agree that she was a "Great Best Friend".

Since childhood Denise was especially innovative in the kitchen, with a knack for baking desserts. She was always creative, making crochet blankets for her children and grand children. Being a grandmother brung her great joy. She adored all of her grandchildren and would often brag of their accomplishments. As the eldest sibling, Denise took great pride in protecting the younger ones, often standing up for them when she was needed.

Denise leaves to cherish her memory, her loving parents; Charles and Barbara Buchanan; Three Daughters, Samara, Charlene and Dorian; Two sons, Steve and Antonio; Two sisters, Charlene (Henry (brother-in-law)) and Desiree (Wali (brother-in-law)); Four brothers, Charles, Don, Walter and Dorian(Davida (sister-in-law)); Twenty grandchildren, Seven great grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, cousins, an uncle, friends and her best friend of many years Angela Fudge (Poochie).

She will be missed dearly!
