Dorothy Mae Pittman was born on October 30,1930 in Enfield, NC to the late Spencer and Pattie Lou Epps. She was the oldest of seven brothers and one sister. Dorothy attended school in Halifax County and eventually graduated from Eastman High School in 1950. She later moved to Brooklyn, NY where she met and married the late Nicholas Edward Pittman. From their union they had three children, Gregory (d.2021), Spencer (Keith) and Beverly. Dorothy furthered her education by attending Kingsboro Community College of New York in Brooklyn. She graduated in 1972 which led her to a career with the New York City Board of Education as a teacher until her retirement in 1996.

On Thursday, June 4,2026, God in his infinite wisdom elevated Dorothy to an angel and changed her address. Dorothy also known as "Dot" to family and friends was a beloved daughter, wife, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, friend and colleague to many.

She became ill in February 2026. We believed she would get better, but God saw that she was tired. Whispering in her ear, "Job well done, good and faithful servant". She exited this earthly place to join her departed son, Gregory, her parents, her brothers and her sister.

Dorothy enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She would travel to North Carolina every summer to spend time with her brothers and sister. She loved cooking. Her southern style cooking was loved by everyone. Her "collard greens" was our favorite. She would always cook for our annual "Pittman Family Gathering". Dorothy was a kind, loving, independent woman. Even in her 90's she was doing everything for herself. Everyone was so amazed how independent she was for her age. She was considered a "second mom" by many. Dorothy's loving spirit and her love for the Lord has left a mark on everyone who was blessed to know her. Her contagious smile will always be remembered. She will be truly missed.

Dorothy leaves behind her son Spencer (Keith), daughter Beverly, her brother Calvin Epps, her grandchildren Darian (Shawn), Kevin, Yolanda, Latoya, Keith and Nia, her great-grandchildren, her great- great grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
