Elaine Garrus born on September 12, 1941, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late George and Helen Alden. From the beginning, Elaine carried herself with strength and kindness. She had a deep sense of responsibility to her family and her home as she remained a proud Philadelphian throughout her life. In 1962, Elaine married Charles Garrus of Baltimore, Maryland and they built a family rooted in love. Elaine was the proud mother of Lisa, Rachel, and Nekia--each of whom preceded her in death, but Elaine continued forward with grace. A caregiver at heart, Elaine dedicated many years of service at Holy Redeemer Hospital and York House, later extending her compassion as a home care worker. Her job was an extension of her nurturing spirit, and in 1991, Elaine joined Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church, where she served on the missionary board. Still giving selflessly; her faith was steady and sincere. One of nine siblings, Elaine was preceded in death by: John Henry Houston, Vonsie Mae Harding, Alexander Houston, Susan Washington, Gary Williams, George ,S Alden Jr., & Ernest Clinkscale. She leaves, with love, her sisters, Odessa Guinyard and Georgine Newman; her brother-in-law, Charles Newman; her grandchildren, Natasha Burroughs (Kevin), Anita Herbert (Keith), Justin Alden Guinyard, Nataliya Garrus, and Quadin Garrus Morris; seven great-grandchildren; eight great-great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, snd friends.
