Obituary

Mother Elizabeth L. Carr

Mother Elizabeth L. Carr was born to the late Thomas and Eunice Carr on November 2, 1926, in Philadelphia, PA. Elizabeth was one of three children, Thomas Jr and Martha, who preceded her in death. Elizabeth attended the Philadelphia Public School System graduating from Gratz High School.

In 1979, Elizabeth enrolled in Beauty School to study Cosmetology. Professionally, Elizabeth was affectionately known as Betty. She was a revered beautician for over 50 years and took her profession very seriously. Her later years, she worked at several salons, even working alongside her brother who was a barber, and lastly at 4300 Germantown Ave until her retirement. Even then, she occasionally worked out of her home. Betty even kept a stash of her old-school marcel curling irons in her kitchen in case someone needed her services. Betty loved all her customers who became close friends over the years. Elizabeth was one of the founding members of the Mount Ephraim Baptist Church, which was started in 1975 in the living room of Rev. James Earl Atkin's house at 76 E. Wister St. Elizabeth later attended Manna Bible Institute maintaining Honor Roll status for all four years and graduating with a degree and advanced teacher certificate. Elizabeth's dedication and commitment to learning and spreading the Gospel inspired her to teach Sunday School for 50 years at various churches. In continuing her pursuit to spread the Gospel, Elizabeth joined Christian Tabernacle COGIC under the pastorate of the late founders Bishop and Mother R.T. Jones, Sr, where she served in the Sunday School ministry at each location as the church moved then also serving under the pastorate of Bishop R.T. Jones, Jr. She also led the Children's Church, provided music devotional for the music ministry, and even her own theme song. Elizabeth also served in ministry at Nazarene Baptist Church for several years. I BELIEVE GOD – was her motto. Elizabeth proclaimed her belief and kept Christ in her heart. This motto even became the way she answered the phone – "I believe God, hello!". I WILL BELIEVE AND OBEY GOD – this is how Elizabeth led and started devotion to music for the children. She became a trusted leader at Christian Tabernacle. She encouraged LOTS of young people to continue with the Word of God, even teaching many from babies through young adults, and into adulthood. Elizabeth continued to serve until she felt the Lord was leading her back to her home church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Pray Band, Pastor's Aid, and the Choir. Elizabeth also taught Bible Study at her home and Mount Ephraim is where she worshipped until the Lord called her home.

Elizabeth leaves to cherish her loving family: Zelma (Sister-in-Law); Toni Carr Williams (Niece); Jackie Smith (Cousin); Roslyn Carr, Eunice Carr (Great Nieces); Great Nephews - Jerrett Coleman (Roslyn), Tyeere Brown (Eunice); Great Niece – Hailey Harrell (Eunice); friends Nina Crenshaw, Barbara Ledbetter; and Pastor Rev. and First Lady Julius Renwink, whom she adored, along with her Mount Ephraim Baptist Church family; and a host of longtime friends of lives she's touched over the years.

Elizabeth's brother Thomas (Flip) Carr, nephew Thomas (Tommy) Carr, niece Leola (Lee) Carr, beloved best friends, Winona (Whitey) White and Bernie, all proceeded her in death.
