Obituary

Harvie "Mae" Bell Sanders, affectionately known as "Mommy", was born on June 10th, 1932 in Barbour Co., Alabama. She was called home to glory on March 3rd, 2020 at Doylestown Hospital in Doylestown, PA.  She was a resident at Neshaminy Manor for many years.

As a young child, her family migrated to Philadelphia, PA. Harvie Mae was educated in the Philadelphia School System and attended the Philadelphia High School for Girls (Girl's High), where she was the first Black President of her class. After graduating, she attended nursing school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse.

During her nursing career, she was a former head nurse at John E. Kennedy Memorial Hospital. She also worked at Harston Hall nursing home and did private duty nursing. Due to her illness, she was unable to continue working in the field of nursing.

Harvie Mae enjoyed volunteering at her niece's daycare center, serving other and was a mother to many. Her home was open to anyone who was in need. She was an avid reader who loved discussing politics and current events. She enjoyed science fiction and martial arts movies.

Harvie Mae especially enjoyed spending time with her best friend and dear niece Venice. They would spend many hours together shopping at Kmart and buying presents for the children.

Harvie Mae encouraged and expected nothing less than the best from each one of her children. She was truly blessed to have many of her granddaughters follow in her footsteps, working in the field of nursing.

Preceding her in death was her mother Wedia Bell, father Albert Bradford, brothers Albert and William, ex-husband Horace Sanders and niece Vinince Jordan.

Harvie Mae will be sadly missed and forever remembered by her children; Horace, Robert, Lettie, Yvonne, and Koralisa (Glenn, her favorite Son in Law); grandchildren Horace (Eboni), Michelle, Ayisha, Jamal (Lenette), Nneka (Fred), Sueca (Joe), Rachel (Bill), Aisha, Tamara, Danielle, Aaron, Shelyse, Glenn Jr., Briana and Paxton; 26 great grands, 6 great-great grands; brothers Charles (Jenny), George (Sue), sister Hannah (Joe) as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

May her soul rest in peace, her family and friends will forever remember the joy she brought to their hearts and let her legacy live on for generations to come. We love you forever!
