Obituary

Inell Brown was born on February 3, 1937, in Columbia, Richland County, South

Carolina, to Willie and Inez Brown. She had one brother, Willie Brown Jr., born in 1939,

who preceded her in death.

In the late 1940s to early 1950s, around the age of 13, Inell moved with her family to

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They settled in South Philadelphia near 22nd and

Washington Avenue. She attended Bartram High School, where she graduated in 1955.

In her yearbook, she was described as quiet and charming. During her high school

years, she was actively involved in the Nursing Club, Memorial Color Guard, Dancing

Club, and the Student Association.

On March 9, 1960, Inell gave birth to her first son, Kevin C. Brown. Around 1963, the

family relocated to West Philadelphia. During this time, she worked at the Fans Movie

Theater and Grant’s Department Store.

On October 7, 1969, she welcomed her second son, Raymond C. Brown. Inell later

became a grandmother on August 28, 1995, with the birth of Raymond’s daughter,

Erinn L. Brown.

Inell began her career at Fidelity Bank in 1973, where she worked faithfully until her

retirement in 1996. After taking time off to help raise her granddaughter, she returned to

the workforce at Macy’s, where she eventually retired for a second time.

In 1999, Inell met the love of her life, James Rucker. They shared their lives together as

partners until her passing.

She loved cooking, sewing, and quilting.

Inell Brown leaves behind to cherish her memory her two sons, Kevin C. Brown and

Raymond C. Brown (Marnie); her granddaughters, Erinn L. Brown and Tyrinn M.

Watson (Kevin); her devoted life partner, James Rucker; as well as cousins, nieces,

nephews, and a host of family and friends.
