Obituary

JOYCE HANKINS- RADFORD 12/5/60 – 5/19/24 Joyce, affectionately known as "Trip" was born on December 5 th , 1960, in Philadelphia, PA., to the late George L. Hankins and Alice Hankins Tillman. Joyce was the one who validated the name "trip" because she was the third sister of a triple birth. She and her two sisters (Jackie and Joan) had a unique bond as they dressed alike and embraced the same hairstyles since childhood. Additionally, the "TRIPS" even pursued the same major in high school and career path at the same organization, Temple University. On August 27, 1978, Joyce became a devoted mother to her daughter Keisha, her pride and joy. Additionally, Joyce took a special title of "Mom Mom", to her grandsons and embraced this role. Joyce was smooth, considered the quiet triplet, but did not have any problem setting people straight and standing up for herself, her daughter, her family, and things she cared about. She was confident, and it was always a pleasure to talk with her. She was highly respected and known for her welcoming attitude at home, work, or attending a family event. Joyce was the front door person who knew all family members, patrons, clients, students and always made them feel welcome. That is just who she was. The world is a better place because of people like Joyce. She would laugh and ask you if you were "mad." You could not help but laugh. Joyce attended M.C. Wister, Rhodes Middle School, Dobbins Vocational Technical High School, and Temple University. She majored in Business Education Administration at Dobbins and enrolled in Business courses at Temple University. This career path presented her a position at Temple University in 1980 at the age of 19.

Joyce worked at Temple University for over four decades, serving as the Student Services Coordinator for the Department of Public Health, until her death – because she LOVED what she did -- she loved Temple University and molding students to be "Temple Made", including her grandson, who is currently a rising sophomore.  Her longevity at Temple was one of many highlights. In 2014, she married the love of her life, Karl Radford. Joyce and Karl enjoyed road trips to visit family in Maryland and dine at their favorite restaurants. Another highlight was after her daughter obtained her PhD (Doctor of Philosophy Degree as she would introduce her as "My Doctor Daughter" who is also TEMPLE MADE and flew back to the nest to work. Joyce volunteered and served on sub- committees; she served as an executive board member for AFSCME DC 47 Local 1723, a board member and officer of the Temple University 20-year club with her two sisters Jackie and Joan. Joyce was an excellent editor, researcher, and bookkeeper, who proof- read documents and found errors that were frequently missed. Joyce leaves to mourn her death, her husband Karl, her mother, Alice, her daughter, Keisha, her sisters Angela, the other two TRIPS, Jackie (John), Joan, Gina (Alton), Corinthia, brother Tony, grandsons Conah & Ziyad, two brother in laws: George, Michael (Lydia), two sister in laws Janet and Linda, step children Kameron, Ariel, Candice, step- grandchildren Roman, Rocco, Leo, Aurie, Chloe and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and extended family members.
