IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lennox Washington
Carty
May 19, 1957 – October 1, 2024
LENNOX'S JOURNEY
On May 19th, 1957 Whydah District, St. Margaret's Bay, in the beautiful parish of Portland, located on Jamaica's East Coast, welcomed Lennox Washington Carty, a baby boy born to Rudolthy Otto and Norval Carty. From the unions of both parents he had a total of fourteen siblings. At the age of 6 his parents separated and his mom remarried Lindburgh Thompson. Mr. Thompson was very instrumental in Lennox's upbringing which developed in a very strong father/son relationship. Lennox attended the St. Margaret Bay Primary School and The Buff Bay Secondary School in Portland. He would often speak of taking his father's lunch box to his job daily, then hopping the train to Buff Bay for School. After leaving Secondary School, at the tender age of 16, Lennox moved to Kingston intending to gain employment but instead decided to get certified as a mechanic, he attended the German Automotive School on Maxfield Avenue in Kingston. After Graduating, Lennox did his Apprenticeship at Small Cars Sales and Services on Hagley Park Road in Kingston, under the tutelage of his late friend Errol Boothe (preceded him 6/15/2024). He remained an employee of Small Cars for sometime until his ambition and passionate nature for automobiles led him to own and operate his first Garage. He later acquired and maintained several Volkswagen Minibuses which plied the 70 bus route in Kingston. In the late 1980's, Lennox and his family migrated to the United States, he first lived in Hatboro with his sister Ionie where he worked at a Gas Station and where he commuted on his bicycle to and fro. He later worked at Brando Automotive Dealership for several years, when Brando closed its doors to the public, Lennox and his former co-worker and friend Clint, bought some of the equipment and established their own Garage on Adams Avenue in Philadelphia. He often spoke with pride of his SNAP ON Tools and how it took him years to complete the payment as it was somewhere in the tune of $25 monthly. He eventually closed the Garage and ventured into his second love, cooking; a skill he picked up from his Step-father. He owned and operated Philly's Jerk Center on Wayne Avenue Philadelphia which was later renamed Tropical Vibes Restaurant. He made the best tasting Jerk Sauce known to man. Whenever anyone would ask Lennox for the recipe, he would say "Mr. Thompson never write it down, a watch me watch him." Anything Lennox cooked was finger licking good. Lennox loved and married two women in his lifetime. His first union with Valerie produced his first son Dameon Andre. He later remarried Heather with whom he gained a daughter Jenae Dominique and his eternal baby Stevyn Zachery. He loved to watch and comment on almost any type of sport. But to the contrast he would not walk, run or stretch even if his life depended on it. His other passion was the Ocean, he loved it and loved eating almost everything from it. He was also an avid lover of music and an even bigger lover of his libation. As a teenager he was confirmed in the St. Margaret's Bay Anglican
Church. Lennox bore many nicknames; Pops, Merrick, Jerky; His sister Dahlia (Grace) recalls with a chuckle, of his sisters calling him "Lawley Bud." Lennox was very compassionate just days before his return from his trip to Jamaica he was offering words of comfort to our Pastors children who were mourning the lost of their Dad. He returned home on Sunday September 29th and on Tuesday October 1st, 2024 he transitioned. He leaves to mourn his passing, His wife Heather, His son Stevyn, His Stepdaughter Jenae, His Grand-Children Demetrius and Shawn, His daughter in law Sherron, His Brothers Henry, Alvin, Barrington, Peter, Michael and Kevin. His sisters Lonie, Greta, Dahlia and Sonia. A host of Brothers and Sisters in law, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and countless other Relatives and Friends. Lennox is preceded in death by his parents, Step-father, brother Glenford, sisters Desrine (Marva) and Charmaine and his son Dameon.
