Lillian Jones affectionately, known as Lady Charles or "Big Momma" was born on May 8,1948 to the late Hilbert and Alma Jones in Philadelphia,Pa. Lillian was the eldest of seven children. Lillian started her early education at Meade,Blaine, Fitzsimon and graduated from William Penn High School in June 1965. Later, she attended nursing school for a short period and held a position at Quartermasters Inc. a job she enjoyed.
Lillian Jones met the love of her life James Charles aka JC and they married Oct 8, 1966 from this union they had one beautiful child Sharon Charles known as their wee lamb.
Lillian was raised in church starting out at Tenth Memorial Baptist Church singing in the choir. She then was under the leadership of Bishop Rosendary. After searching more of God she began a new journey with the Church of the Living God under the leadership of Pastor Louise McDaniel. When God called Pastor McDaniels home she began her fellowship under the leadership of Pastor Ruth Woodard and Apostle Nathaniel Woodard where she was a faithful member until The Lord called her home.
Lady Charles also known as Big Momma began caring for Senior Citizens and later opening her own home daycare. Throughout her life she cared for not only children from family members but the church, the community or anyone in need. She loved caring for children and counseling parents when they were feeling down or if the spirit led. When the children wanted to argue or get out of hand. She would say " It's time to Pray and call on the Lord, We are having Tarry service" but the children loved Big Momma regardless. Big Momma was going to make sure her children ate and had enough even if the parents were there to pick them up. Lady Charles fed the community hearts and souls while educating. Lady Charles' passion was showing Love, cooking and Baking for everyone. Lady Charles had a giving heart and if you needed something she would make it happen, especially if you were hungry. Her speciality was Fried chicken, Fish, potato salad, bread pudding and so much more.
Big Momma Loved to have family gatherings and celebrations. Her only request was make sure you have plenty of food, fruit and especially Nuts of any kind…. And of course her family and friends surrounding her. During her time being the Lead cook at the church her cooking partner Mr. Charles Woodard who would pick her up and than they would begin to put in some hard but enjoyable work.
Lady Charles, a prophetess, had a gift of being led by the Holy Spirit to give you a word from the Lord to help you better your life with Christ. When Lady Charles began to walk the aisle, everybody knew it was time to repent of your sins. She was a true woman of God and had a connection like no other. She Loved the Lord with all her heart, calling on him even in her days of pain. She would pray and sing of thanksgiving and Bless his holy name.
