Benjamin

Obituary

Sherry Lynn Benjamin was born in Philadelphia, PA. The eldest daughter of four children to Martha Ann & the late George Benjamin on November 18, 1959. On June 17, 2022, God saw fit to call his servant to her heavenly home. Sherry was educated in the Public School system, graduating from Simon Gratz High School in 1977. Soon after graduating high school, Sherry began her career as an Administrative Assistant with the Department of Education/Inspector General's Office where she served 31+ years before retiring in 2011. Sherry accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior early in life and was baptized. She grew up being a member of the Morris Chapel Baptist Church community where her family worshiped for decades. Sherry recommitted her life to Christ in 1990, in doing so she became an active member serving Missionary Ministries, and various choirs. Sherry was the mother of one daughter, Fakia Benjamin who she loved profoundly. She was adored by her nieces and nephews who considered her to be the "cool" aunt. However, that Grandbaby (Qaniya)! It was she who stole Sherry's heart. All who knew Sherry, could easily associate her with style, a sharp haircut, a love for Jazz music, and culture. Sherry had an impeccable sense of style. You never saw her without a head-turning piece of jewelry, which she later learned to make herself. Sherry was the get-up- and-go type. She would often venture into the city on beautiful spring/summer days to shop, eat, or just take in the sights. She would probably love Instagram, had it been around back then. Her many adventures in the city lead her to a chance encounter with Daniel E. Lane in 2003 who she united in marriage on April 17, 2004. Sherry and Danny were blessed to share two years of marriage before he preceded her in death. She later joined the Mount Airy Church of God in Christ family, where she served in the Transportation Ministry and helped wherever she could. Sherry was a very spiritual person who believed in the power of prayer. When she fell ill, her living room became the stage for many Sunday morning Praise and Worship sessions before tuning in to watch Sunday service. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving mother and sister in Christ; Martha Ann Benjamin (George Benjamin d.), her devoted daughter; Fakia Benjamin, her adoring granddaughter; Qaniya Benjamin, her 3 siblings; Gwendolyn Benjamin, George Wayne Benjamin (Valerie d.), Michelle Benjamin, 7 nieces and nephews; James Peaks (Regina), Brandee Jason (Kenneth), Charniece Richardson, Maurice Richardson, George "Trey" Benjamin, Ayana Allen, a host of aunts, uncles, great- nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
