Obituary

George and Glendora Pyfrom gave birth to Yvonne Carmita Pyfrom on November 20, 1936. Yvonne was baptized as an infant on Easter Saturday at Saint Simon Episcopal Church, where she would go on to participate in Sunday school and sing in both the children's choir and the flower guild. With these groups, she traveled to raise funds to various places such as the Lily Langtry Theatre and Restaurant in New Jersey, the Roosevelt estate in the Poconos, the Birth of Jesus Pageant for Christmas in Maryland (which included live animals in the production). Yvonne also attended various church picnics and sold candy for holiday events to raise money for the beautification and upkeep of the Episcopal Church. At age 12, she had her confirmation at the Episcopal Church and took her first communion.

Yvonne married Robert Earl Jones (Jonesy) on April 6, 1959, in Elkton, Maryland. They shared a loving marriage full of travel, care, laughter and fun. She believes her mother sent Jonesy to take care of her after Glendora's passing. Their travels included Nassau, Bahamas, and Jamaica for the Jackie Robinson Golf tournament. They took trips often including to places such as Guadalajara, Mexico; Waikiki and Honolulu Hawaii; and Brazil. Yvonne also enjoyed traveling to see family, including constant visits to see Jonesy's relatives in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. These trips were particularly special as everyone loved Yvonne and she felt that love. Yvonne realizing, as in the famous expression, the family that prays together, stays together, joined her husband, and became a member of the Baptist Church. As part of this congregation, Yvonne sang on the senior choir, and she was also selected to become the church clerk and teacher in the evening weekly program helping adults learn to read. During this period Yvonne assisted a friend's Methodist church with Vacation Bible School. Yvonne attended George Smith Elementary School where she was an excellent student and skipped 2 grade levels. Upon graduation from high school, she attended Temple University where she earned her bachelor's degree in education and became a public- school teacher. Yvonne was an excellent teacher in the Philadelphia Public School System as exemplified by the numerous awards including Teacher of the Year, an accolade very few teachers accomplish. She served the students and families of Philadelphia for 35 years before retirement.

Yvonne was a light in our world. Her smile and laughter filled every room she entered. She was full of stories and warmth. Her actions were motivated by genuine compassion and a constant desire to assist and serve others. Yvonne was beautiful inside and out. Everyone loved Yvonne. She had many gifts including psychic abilities predicting the early return of her brother from war, the death of her father and her own passing. She wrote most of this obituary. Yvonne loved deeply and was and will continue to be deeply loved. On the morning of Saturday, December 20, 2025, Yvonne took her last breaths while at home with her niece, Carmita and her niece's husband, Isabelo. Yvonne was preceded in death by her spouse, Robert Earl Jones, sister, Jacqueline Hanton, brothers, George Pyfrom Jr., Rene Pyfrom and Ricardo Pyfrom Sr. Her memory will continue in the hearts of her sister-in-law Carmena Pyfrom, many nieces and nephews including Ericka Pyfrom, Ricardo Pyfrom (Lynnae), Carmita Alvarez (Isabelo), William Hanton (Renee), Bertram Hanton (Debra), John Hanton (Camilla), Carol Junious, Yvonne El-Preyor-Bey, Harold Jones, Alverta Hill and Deborah Pryor; countless cousins including Lorraine Henry (Emory Adams), Mildred Murray, Reginald Whitaker and Rose Marie Richards (Dennis Lauchman); and enumerable grand-nieces, grand-nephews, family, neighbors and friends.
