Beatrice Floyd, 85, passed away at her home on Sunday December 26, 2021.
Beatrice was born on November 27, 1936 in Marion, South Carolina to the late Rebecca and Fred Askins Sr. From this union three children were born; Ruth Grasty who preceded her in death, Beatrice, and Fred Askins Jr.
Beatrice, affectionately known as Bea grew up in Florence, South Carolina but moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a young adult where she later earned her G.E.D. She met and married Johnny Callands (who preceded her in death) and from this union three children were born; Joise, Anthony, and Curtis. In later years, she met and married the late Calvin J Floyd. From this marriage five children were born; Calvinette, Mendeara, Katrina, Viller and Felicia. She and Calvin raised all eight children together as a loving family.
Bea was a homemaker who enjoyed baking cookies, cakes, and pies from scratch along with her signature banana pudding. She was blessed with the talent of sewing clothing and evolved into an excellent seamstress. She sewed the bridesmaids’ dresses for Joise’s wedding; and also made prom gowns, three-piece suits, dresses, blouses and bow ties for family, friends, and gospel choirs. She loved the teachings of Benny Hinn Ministries and enjoyed discussing Joyce Meyer Ministries with her late niece Doris May Grasty. She was also a vivid storyteller and enjoyed the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles.
Bea was also a longstanding member of First Corinthian Baptist Church for over 50 years.
Bea was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin; father, Fred Askins Sr.; mother, Rebecca Askins; sister, Ruth Grasty (Dotson); and niece, Doris.
Bea is survived by her brother, Fred Askins, Jr., eight children, Joise, Anthony, Curtis, Calvinette, Mendeara, Katrina, Viller and Felicia; twelve grandchildren, Ronald, Shalaina, Tyra, Nafis, Sherita, Nakia, Fatima, Chavalier, DeVante, Teveon, Sierra and Marquise; eight great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; three stepchildren, Charyl, Carol (George), and Harold (Christine); two sister-in-laws, Elsie Callands, Nora Lee Floyd; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
