Deborah Benson James affectionately known as “Debbie” was born on September 29, 1955 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Louis W. Benson and Delores Benson Poplar.
Debbie received a formal education in the Philadelphia Catholic school system. After receiving her education she worked in Health Care. Debbie later left the health care industry working for a company name Bakers. Bakers immediately recognized her excellent skills and thriving potential where she was promoted to supervisor. While working there she met and married her Life partner Michael James who she loved dearly.
In 2012 the love of her life, her daughter, Angel who was her best friend departed this life. Debbie later decided to resign from her professional career to take on full responsibility of her grandson Dante.
Debbie enjoyed cooking, cleaning, listening to oldies and dancing. Outside of being the world’s best grandma, always dotting on her grandchildren, she enjoyed having fun with family and friends.
Debbie was a loving wife, a good friend, sister and great mother to her beloved daughter. She was a friend to the end and would give you the shirt off her back. Debbie grandkids called her their rock star for being a strong black women with a big heart.
Debbie departed this life on Sunday October 25, 2020 to be with her maker and reunite with beloved ones. Debbie leaves to cherish her memories, husband Michael James, grandchildren Deshawn Benson, Tayanna Benson, Dante Benson and Heather Oliver and two great-grandchildren Malik Hood and Makkah Henderson, one brother Louis Benson and one sister Diane Benson, godson Dante Brown and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Debbie was preceded in death by her father Louis Benson, mother Delores Benson Poplar, daughter Delores Benson, and sister Rena Mae Cole and nephew Dante Benson.
