Obituary

Remembering Our Matriarch

On Sunday August 20th, 2023, our beloved Delilah Mae Young was called home by our Heavenly Father.

Delilah, who was affectionately known as Mae, was born to Mary Ella Shaw and Marshall Grant on May 21st, 1951. She was adopted by Mother Goodwin and later raised by her Aunt Lucille. Delilah was the sixth born child of nine children.

Delilah attended William Penn High School and received her Diploma through a Private School. Delilah became a nursing assistant and eventually went on to Nursing School and received her Practical Nursing License.

Delilah’s career included work at Hahnemann Hospital and several Long Term Nursing  Facilities as well as home health care before she retired.

Delilah fell in love and married her husband Robert Young aka Bob in 1991. Bob and Mae enjoyed going to the casino, Atlantic City, Flea Markets Bus trips to New York and taking their grandchildren back to school and birthday shopping at Strawbridges and Macys.

Mae loved music, During her younger years her and her best friend, “her sister Marcy”, never missed a show at the Uptown. Mae was also in several singing groups.

Mae was a devoted Christian woman who read her bible every morning, she prayed for the strength of others daily, and she never let her day begin without prayer.

She enjoyed spending time with her daughter Latonya and doing things such as listening to oldies like Bobby Womack, Marvin Gaye, Al Green and many more. She enjoyed traveling with her daughter Latonya, shopping, having long talks and long drives that always ended up at the casino. She was truly her daughters best friend, always finding a way to make her daughter laugh because she was such a jokester.  She also spent many years rasing her other children Darien, Selena and Bruce taking them to the park, on trips and just overall spending time with them.

Mae also enjoyed spending money and time with her grandchildren at the dollar store, She was always taking them out to eat, shopping, going on trips and having fun at family nights.

Mae enjoyed going to the casino, watching and yelling at her judge tv shows like Judge Mathis and she loved knitting.

Though Mae was a middle child, in true Gemini fashion, she carried on like she was the oldest, always telling her siblings what to do and bossing them around. She was a no nonsense type of woman and would tell it like it is with no filter. Her favorite line was “Don’t make me Bust you “. She would always make sure she gave it to you straight and out of love because she was never the woman to sugarcoat. Mae was the real deal and that’s what made people gravitate to her for advice.

Delilah's legacy of compassion, strength, and love will forever live on in the hearts of her family and those she cared for. Her life's work as a nurse touched countless lives, embodying her selflessness and dedication to others.

Mae’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her profession, as she became the steadfast foundation of her family. Guiding and inspiring generations with her wisdom, directness and unwavering love, she created a bond that will endure for lifetimes.

Delilah's influence continued to grow, touching the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Her legacy of compassion, kindness, and strength will carry on through each of them, as they remember the remarkable woman who played such an integral role in shaping their lives.

Mae was a cherished matriarch, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

As we remember Delilah's remarkable journey, may we find comfort in the memories we shared and the impact she had on all who were fortunate to know her. She will be deeply missed and always remembered.
