Celebration of Life Lorraine Diane Speaks
Lorraine Diane Speaks was born March 11, 1955, to the late William McKinley and the late Mary Lee White-Speaks. Lorraine was the second child born of three children, brother William and sister Elisabeth. She graduated from William Penn High School in 1976 and later studied at Temple University in Philadelphia.
She was a devoted, resilient, and selfless mother to her wonderful five children. Throughout their lives, Lorraine's unconditional love was evident in every interaction. Lorraine undeniably loved her adorable eight grandchildren, and they loved and adored her as well. She always anticipated her summer adventures with her daughter Tersheia and granddaughter Ayanna as they traveled the country making everlasting memories.
Lorraine's love was revealed through her acts of service. Her passion for cooking exemplified her deep desire to take care of others. She was a magician in the kitchen! One fond memory was of her making a delicious Thanksgiving feast by maximizing the resources she had and adding her touches of love to ensure her family was well fed and happy. Her passion allowed any visitor to always leave her table with a full stomach, memories of laughter, and a permanent smile on their face. Boy, did she have a servant’s heart! She served as an Usher, a Teacher’s Aide to the children's church, and assisted other ministries such as Culinary Arts, Administration, and Operations. If anything needed to be done, she was always willing to jump in no matter the task, and she did it with great joy!
Lorraine accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and joined Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church. There she was baptized on November 11, 2008. In 2014, Lorraine became a member of Calvary Reformed United Ministries, under the Leadership of Overseer Timothy and Pastor LaShawn Roberson. She was loved by everyone and she precipitated
that same love. She was a happy upbeat person with an infectious smile and the cutest girlish laugh. Lorraine was a wonderful, generous, and tenderhearted person who will be missed by everyone she encountered.
Lorraine spent her final days at Visiting Nurse Association of Greater Philadelphia. On July 5, 2023, Lorraine D. Speaks was called to her final home with Jesus. She accepted the call while surrounded by her loving family.
She leaves fond memories to be cherish by her Children: Monique Speaks, Tyrone Staples, Tersheia Hayes, Winfred “David” Hayes and Michael Hayes; her Grandchildren: Ayanna, Kareemah, David Jr., TaCari, Michael Jr., Shiloh, Jayceon and Jayce; as well as her brother William Speaks Jr. and sister Elisabeth “Renee” Collier and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
