Pastor George Junious Obituary

Pastor George's Story

aka "The Sock Man"

George Elbert Junious was born on October 2, 1946, in Bessemer, Alabama. One of eleven
children born to the late Henry and Nella Junious. His parents, Son Poppy, and Sister Amelia
preceded him in transition.
Philadelphia became the family home when George was quite young. George was formally
educated in Philadelphia and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School. He received a
degree in business administration from Mercer County Community College. He received a
degree in religion from Manna Bible Institute.
George met Carol Lassiter, the Love of his life in 1983. They were married in 1984 and were
blessed with six children. The love and care of his family was paramount in his every decision.
He was relentless in ensuring that all of their needs and lots of their wants were realized. He
had a special relationship with his son Poppy. Poppy’s death at the age of 13 devasted the
family. George’s suffering was only relieved by the Lord who redeemed him out of this dark
season, to His glory. George loved all his grandchildren. He even had the pleasure of
nicknaming the youngest grandchild Kylie , “LuLu”. He was a great husband, Dad and Pop Pop.
They loved him dearly and greatly benefited from his wisdom, commitment and perseverance.
He loved his pets and attended to their every need.
George was a caring man and a positive influence in many people’s lives. He had a deep passion
and commitment to improving the future prospects of the neighborhood youth. He was the
ideal mentor, asking for nothing in return. His reward was sharing in the success of the
individuals that he pointed in the right direction. He loved the outdoors and walked five miles
daily. He was an avid reader, the Bible was his favorite read. He really enjoyed decorating and
preparing for festive activities. George was a good dancer, the bop was his favorite.
George proudly served his country as a paratrooper and electronics expert in the army.
George worked for the Laurel Meat Packing Company, Two Brothers Pizza, as Manager of the
Delivery Operations. He also worked for a Tent Company in Montgomery County, the Kirby
Vacuum Company, and took pride in assisting his daughter at the family’s Funeral Home,
(Nicole M. Bartlett Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc.) until his last day. He was accomplished
and well respected by his employers. He started his own businesses, Hart to Hart Deliver
Service; which coordinated employment opportunities based on demands in the food industry.
George was known for his charismatic, extraordinary, uplifting, STRONG and contagious
personality; which led him to be the Best Vendor Seller in Hunting Park! He was affectionately
known as the “Sock Man”. He was a successful vendor. As an entrepreneur it was important to
him to provide the best service and experience possible.

George joined the Union Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend William Oliver. He
was a dedicated member, helping wherever necessary and participated in several ministries.
George loved our Lord and answered his calling to the ministry in 1988. George had a firm
foundation of faith, belief and trust in the Lord. He was the Pastor of a small congregation of
believers at the New Church of God. He was loved by his members and he loved them too. His
efforts to guide their walk with our Lord was tireless. George bowed before the
Lord in total submission until our Lord sent for him. His dream was to one day expand his
building and congregation to preach the word of Christ. His last wish was to preach at Spirit of
Truth Church at 6th & Cayuga Street in hopes of gathering 300 people to fellowship with him.

Precious memories will remain in the hearts of his devoted wife Carol; children: Denise
