William Washington Sr. Obituary

William Edward Washington Sr. was also affectionally known as “Smokey” to many. William was born on August 21, 1944 in Onancock, VA to Norman Chandler, and Dorothy Washington Bassett. William departed this life on October 27, 2020.

In October 2019 William Sr. was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in which he fought to the end. He gave a valiant effort to continue life as he knew it until God decided William Sr. job was completed and called him home for his eternal rest.

William Sr. was educated in the Philadelphia School System. He worked odd jobs until he found his footing at Oxford Metals where he remained until he retired.   In 1974 he meets, courted, and married Elizabeth Crummy Washington and from that union he had three children. Lamont, Lynda, William Jr. and a bonus child, Kwante. William and Elizabeth were connected for 46 years and did everything together, it was certain that when you see one, the other was right behind, they enjoyed a lifetime of precious memories.

William Sr. a devoted husband and father, a southern man at heart who led by example, a man of wisdom and guidance a creature of habit. Never hesitated to help and was always there when needed. William will be dearly missed.

Preceding his death was his Father, Norman Chandler, Mother Dorothy Washington Bassett, Brothers, Wilbert Bassett, and Wendel Basset, Sisters, Ethel Bassett, and Mary Bassett

William Sr. leaves to cherish his memories his dedicated wife, Elizabeth, children Lamont, Lynda, William Jr. and Kwante. Daughter in Laws Deanna, SoPhear and one Son in Law James. Grandchildren, Erica, Kaitlyn Jordon, Jaden B, Jayson, Lamont Jr, Andre, Elizabeth, William III. Laritza, Elijah, James, Jurni, Jaydan, Lillie and Mileyana. Two Great Grandsons Zamar, and Elijah. Two Brothers Jerry Bassett, and Clyde Bassett, and two sisters Rosa Bassett, and Cleo Bassett. A host of niece and nephews, cousins and friends

May his soul rest in peace knowing he did a remarkable job in leaving his legacy in which the effects of his actions will be felt for generations to come. We will love you always and forever, William Edward Washington Sr.
